Dr Farquhar qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 1979 and subsequently trained in Edinburgh and Melbourne, Australia. He was a Consultant at the St John’s Hospital from 1990 until 2015 and was the Clinical Director for all Medicine services for 10 years. He has had 40 papers published in peer-reviewed journals. He has been an MRCP (UK) International Examiner for over 20 years. He has examined over 4500 PACES candidates. He was the International Medical Director (Assessment) for the Federation of Royal Colleges of Physicians from 2015 to 2023. He has opened 16 new MRCP PACES centers in countries including India, Pakistan, Myanmar, Malaysia, IAE, Kenya, Jamaica, and Sri Lanka. He has been involved in the MRCP teaching courses in Saudi Arabia, India, Pakistan, Myanmar, and Hong Kong. He has been an external examiner for the Singapore MMed, Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons and Sri Lanka MMed and the Libya Medical Board.
